Implant-supported dentures, which are also called snap-in dentures, could be just what you need to solve your problems with your complete loss of teeth. As many as 36 million Americans have lost all of their teeth. And instead of getting traditional dentures, many of them have been able to get snap-in dentures.
At the office of Lakeland Periodontics & Implant Dentistry, we are expert authorities in diagnosing and treating periodontal issues and diseases. We can help you with the appearance of your smile, excess gums, receding gums and missing teeth.
Traditional dentures are held in your mouth with dental powder, adhesives or suction, and they must be safely stored when you’re not using them. While they rest on the gum line, snap-in dentures are anchored by orthodontic implants. The implant posts are anchors that are surgically positioned into your jaw at strategic locations. The dentures are snapped onto the posts. You can take out the dentures, but the posts are permanent.
Snap-in dentures have a huge advantage over traditional dentures in that they will be removed from your mouth by you and intentionally; they won’t come loose or fall out accidentally due to failure of the dental powder, adhesive or suction.
Snap-ins let you chew more efficiently because, unlike conventional dentures, they allow the jawbone to exert a lot of pressure on the food. The maximum biting force of people with implanted dentures can be as much as 300 percent more than people with ordinary dentures. That enhanced capability lets you choose from a wider variety of foods and blends much better into your mouth’s natural chewing motion.
In addition to functional benefits, implant-supported dentures have personal benefits, which to many people are just as important. The stability of the snap-ins will help you feel more comfortable in social situations. You won’t need to worry about them falling out right in the middle of a conversation, meal or public event. You’ll have the freedom to smile at will without fretting that you’ll have an embarrassing “denture mishap.”
Nothing is perfect, and no method is right for everybody. So talk to a periodontist about whether or not implant-supposed dentures would be a good choice for you.
